History

In 1974, the Iranian Ministry of Sciences approved late Dr. Asghar Razavieh's proposal for the establishment of the School of Education and Psychology at Shiraz University with the mission of educating expert teachers. Three years later, the school was inaugurated with the  admission of 250 students in eight different fields of study, namely the Education of various subjects including Persian Literature, English Language and Literature, Social Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics each with the enrolment of 30 students as well as Educational Sciences program with the enrolment of 40 students. Educational Psychology, formerly a program in the School of Humanities, was also integrated in the structure of this newly established School. After the Cultural Revolution of 1980, which led to the shutdown of academia in Iran, the School of Education and Psychology was restructured; the Departments of Special Education, Educational Administration and Curriculum Planning, Foundations of Education, and Educational Psychology were established and, later,  Departments of Physical Education, Clinical Psychology and Library Sciences (currently, Information Sciences and Knowledge Studies) were also integrated into this School in 1986, 1995 and 2005 respectively. The School of Educational Sciences and Psychology offers several B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. programs in all its seven departments.

Achievements and Distinctions:

• Membership of Dr. Jaafar Mehrad and late Dr. Ali Akbar Hosseini in Iranian Science and Culture Hall of Fame
• Pioneering M.A. program in Educational Psychology for the first time in Iran by Dr. Asghar Razavieh
• Establishment of the Shiraz University High School by Dr. Asghar Razavieh
• Establishment of the first non-profitable educational complex in Iran in 1989 by Dr. Mohammad Mazidi
• Establishment of Shiraz University Center for Children's Literature Studies by Dr. Morteza Khosronejad
• Establishment of Shiraz University Center for Sports Therapy by Dr. Eskandar Rahimi
• Establishment and administration of the Shiraz University Counselling Center, a collective endeavor of Dr. Mohammad Ali Goudarzi and Dr. Habib Hadianfard
• Publication of Education and Psychology journals
• Establishment of the Library and Documents Center of Shiraz University by Dr. Jaafar Mehrad
• Pioneering the first Ph.D. program in the field of Sciences and Knowledge Studies
• Publication of many original and translated books and academic articles in different national and international venues
• Establishment of Master Program in Philosophy for Children and Young Adults for the first time in Iran by the Department of Foundations of Education in 2016
